LOCAL CHURCH JUMPERS

Who is your church's Jumper?

Jumper job description

In order to get the word out about Pilgrim Lodge and bring as many people to this ministry as possible, the Outdoor Ministries Committee (OMC) is engaging a campaign involving the active churches of the Maine Conference.  We need one person from each church to serve as the "jumper" to anchor the campaign in that church.  We also need people to work with the Local Church Jumper as part of a PL Team.  The jumper will attend one of four workshops on how to energize the community  (other team members are welcome too) and then to be the campaign anchor and cheerleader.  See the job description.

Bulletin announcements:
Pilgrim Lodge "Beyond the Boardwalk" session is near capacity.
Beyond the Boardwalk is a special session for a small number of young people who will be entering grades 7 and 8 in the next school year.  Campers will start the week in cabins while learning about outdoor camping skills, and then at the end of the week, use those skills for a couple nights camping on the PL island.  It's a great introduction to outdoor camping.  The session will take place August 1-7.  There are no spaces left for boys and two spaces left for girls.  To be placed on a waiting list call 207-724-3200

Pilgrim Lodge Senior High Camp has reached capacity: To be placed on the waiting list please call 207-724-3200.

Church Newsletter Article:
This article is by Sally Keiter, a 14 year old from First Congregational UCC in South Portland.  Sally is in 8th grade

I went to my first week at Pilgrim Lodge in the summer before 5th grade. I remember driving down the dirt road on a sunlit afternoon in late July and finally coming in sight of a large yellow building which I soon found out was the main lodge. A staff member was right there to greet my family and to point us in the direction of check-in. This was one of the first signs that PL was going to be a great camp. They made it easy for the first time campers so that they weren't confused or afraid, and everyone, I mean everyone, had a smile on their face.

Over the weeks that I've been, I've become an experienced camper, and become accustomed to the traditions that make Pilgrim Lodge the camp that it is. It wouldn't be PL without the early morning swims to the island, the songs at mealtimes, getting stuck out in the lake in boats, the leaky canoes, the torch-lit vesper services, the nightly boardwalk time, or going to sleep in little cabins while listening to the cry of the loons echo across the lake.

Being a camper at PL is a great experience that always brings me closer to nature, to new friends and to God. The whole camp: the lodge, outdoor chapel, hiking trails, cabin row, and waterfront, seems to scream 'I am God's creation!' PL is not tainted by cell phones, iPods, TV's or computers, and I feel that it's actually really easy to let those things go and have fun in nature instead. Whether you're a child, teen, or adult there will always be a place for you at Pilgrim Lodge. Breathe in the clear, fresh air and embrace God's wonderful creation.
