Food Survey Reveals “Oldies still Goodies”

  • All-time favorites remain

WEST GARDINER, MAINE- A recent survey has indicated that the favorite Pilgrim Lodge foods are, not surprisingly, the “oldies.” Tying for first place, with 14 votes each, are macaroni and cheese and tacos. The least favorite foods, all with one vote, are quiche, blueberry muffins, kiwi, chicken pot pie, water, hot cocoa, french toast, sunflower seeds, coffee, veggie lasagna, salad, and cina-bun coffee cakes. This trend put to rest recent speculation by food critics that “new” foods such as pitas and lettuce, although salads at every meal proved quite popular. For a complete breakdown of the results, see page 3.

Cabin Five Returns from the Ashes

  • New building is enormous

PL- Thanks to the never-ending efforts of countless volunteers, the twisted destruction that was cabin 5 has returned in the form of a new, larger cabin. Features include handicapped access, a handicapped shower (that’s right, plenty of hot water!!), a large meeting area in the front, and a nook for the counselor to sleep in. Some believe that all cabins will be rebuilt as such in the course of the next decade, and time will tell. This week dozens of ‘volunteer’ campers worked on the cabin in many aspects. For more questions, contact Bryan Breault, the camp director.

Senior Quotes

Let go and let God!

“Don’t frown because it’s over, smile because it happened”

It’s amazing what you can do in a hammock, I thought it was astounding.

The truest expression of a person is its dances and its music, bodies never lie.

Don’t run through life so fast that you forget not only where you’ve been, but also where you’re going.

Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly.

“Time it was and what a time it was…it was, a time of innocence, a time of confidences. Long ago it must be, I have a photograph, preserve your memories, they’re all that’s left of you.”

God put eyes on the front of your head to see where you’re going. Not where you’ve been.

Life is short and hard…..like a body buildin’ elf.

Don’t drink draino.

Oh mommy.

God will ALWAYS listen.

When it comes to love, go with your first instinct cause the heart never lies.

You should ALWAYS smile, never frown, cause you never know when someone will fall in love with your smile.

PL has, for the past nine years, been the only constant in my life. If I could only take the spirit of PL and bottle it, I’d be a millionaire.

DEAR AARON

With our resident expert, Aaron Chadbourne

Dear Aaron,

I’m really shy around guys that I don’t know, but there is this one guy that I think is really cute and he seems nice (sounds familiar…). The problem is I am too shy to talk to him without feeling idiotic. Any suggestions?                                    -Branching Outward

Dear Branching,

Once you get past the “initial nervousness” it really isn’t that hard to start a conversation with a guy. A good approach is to break the ice by complimenting him.  Most guys enjoy a good comment about the shirt they’re wearing or the way they gel their hair.  After you find that solid conversation starter…BE YOURSELF.  Guys try to get a feel for the type of person you are and expect you to accurately represent your personality.  Be positive, be pleasant and SMILE.If this guy is really that nice, than I am sure that you can’t go wrong!

Dear Aaron,

I want to be the best child of God that I can be. I go to church, I pray, I follow the rules. What more can I do?   - Growing Spiritually

Dear Growing,There is more to being a Child of God than going to church, praying and being good. In striving to do God’s work, you need to really LIVE it, ALL THE TIME! Help those in need, treat others the way you’d like to be treated, strive to make the world better and TALK ABOUT YOUR FAITH.  For more ideas, it is a great idea to talk to your minister or refer to one of the most reliable sources – THE BIBLE

Dear Aaron,

What is your idea of the perfect date?

- Aiming to Please

Aiming to Please,

Luckily, one of my FAVORITE topics is dating. Today, it is often considered they “guy’s role” to plan and organize a date. For the record, I think that our female counterparts should be equally responsible for that duty. But, to answer your question, An evening picnic at the beach, under the stars is perfect. It contains the ideal atmosphere and just the right amount of romance without being corny.

Dear Aaron,

How can I get as many girls as you do?

-A Friend in Need

My needy friend,

The key to a girl’s heart is being sweet.  When you think that a girl is GORGEOUS, tell her.  When you like a girl’s eyes or lips or any other feature (that won’t cause her to smack you), let her know. Speak softly, use gentle touch to send signals and act like a gentleman.  Every girl wants to feel special. If you can read her and accommodate her needs, you’re golden!

PL Poetry

Who knew?

Who knew the creator? That touched their fingers, silently spoke to the oceans like a Van Gogh with the Mona Lisa, mysteriously called water to the lakes and rivers.

Who knew this place was holy?

Who touched this ground and said,

“People here are different?”

Did God make this place for us, or did we make this place for God?

Lost, are we, among the computers, microwave dinners and rent-a-parents.

Have we forgotten life outside our own?

What is our impact to be, if we never stop to look where we’ve come from and where we need to go?

God, Goddess, whatever you call it, or him or her… Made Pilgrim Lodge for you.

When the homework, parents, teachers, boyfriends, girlfriends, work, bosses and sports get to be too much… there IS a place to come and ponder…

How big are my footprints?

This place is special, it IS holy ground and we, you, I must walk light-footed, open hearted.

Who knows when God will silently stretch out a silken finger and call…

-Katelyn
